I'm not sure being able to warn you when you might get sick to your stomach or not makes me smart, but if you say so.

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

How are you faring after the trek here?
dearkafka: (look)

About the same.

Trying to adjust to this place. It's a far cry from Tokyo, isn't it?
dearkafka: (petulant)

It's, ah... Yeah. I wouldn't say it's my favorite place to be either.

[He's homesick, sure. It'll probably be that way for a long time.]

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

It's beautiful, but it's also hot and humid... and I don't really have a positive impression of the wildlife so far.

[The sentient species were interesting, as he hadn't had a negative run-in with them so far, but he's mostly just thinking of the damn centipede.]

There are way too many bugs.

You heard about the giant fish-centipede thing, right?

I don't know exact numbers, but climbing it felt like climbing the Tokyo Tower.

And it took a few dozen of us to take it down...

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

At least the other bugs haven't been that massive, so far.

I was one of the people that brought it down, yeah.

It was a bit different fighting something like that, being accustomed to fighting ghouls.

[And investigators, but... well, he doesn't need to say that...]

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

What was it that you had to deal with after your drop?
dearkafka: (eyepatch » wow stop talking plz)

It seems like insects are going to be a recurring theme here.

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

Water as well. Our group was actually dropped into the middle of the ocean. That's where we fought the centipede.

We had to swim a few miles to get to shore.

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

Yes.

I'm definitely not used to swimming such long distances, though. Thinking back on it, it's kind of a miracle I made it to shore at all.

[He's going to attribute it to the adrenaline.]

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

Did you have to swim to cross the water to the rendezvous?

It's good you found a lift, then.

If what we faced in this last drop is an indicator, learning how to swim would probably be a good idea. I can't say I'd be the best tutor, though.

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

How are your new rovermates?
dearkafka: (this sounds like the worst possible thin)

(OOC: After reading chapter 18 of :re, now I feel like you should go back and retcon Juuzou into having that prosthetic because it was awesome.)

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

Swimming usually stops that from happening.

But learning to float is important, and it's a lot easier. The air in your lungs lets you float without even moving your arms and legs.

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

That going to be a problem for you?
dearkafka: (eyepatch » calmly explain)

(OOC: It was one of my favorite moments of :re so far, ngl.)

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

Well... not exactly...

Dead bodies will sink at first. They only rise to the surface later because the process of decay causes them to bloat.

[Thank you for the science lesson, Kaneki.]

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

It shouldn't be an issue so long as everyone minds their own spaces, right?

[/sweats. Even though he'd probably be grossed out by a body that'd gotten to that state of decomposition. He was a carnivore, not a scavenger.]

FROM: kaneki.ken@cdc.org

The rovers are a lot better than the tents.

I feel kinda bad for the people who have to use them.
